Site Purpose

A State of Mind

This is an online tutoring extension to the classes I give as part of a Continuing Education Program on Computer Information Technologies. The goal of the program is to expand and strengthen technical knowledge and skills, training for a career or as a qualification for improved service to clients, organizations, and communities. The site will act as a forum for sharing knowledge in the form of intuitive ideas otherwise difficult to present during regular classes. Link to members' projects will assess how they are using this information to advance their skills. Its main objective is to demonstrate that it is possible for anyone with limited Internet knowledge to follow a simple program of instructions, and with the help of community members, develop new skills through practical applications while creating an online identity and a Web presence essential for his/her future.

By becoming a member, you will be able to have a say in our forums and access knowledge zones, while participating in a fun and friendly community with an innovative point reward system based on content contribution. So, go ahead, take the challenge and lend a hand or catch a hand. Either way, it will be rewarding.

Parallax Design

There hasn’t been a design style that has captured the web’s creative community like that of parallax website design in ages. In web design use, parallax refers to the scrolling technique used to create the illusion of depth on websites. The methods typically involve combinations of HTML5, CSS3, graphics design, jQuery, and JavaScript to power the parallax scrolling effects.

So, here is my first attempt with the familiar 'Jungle' theme used during our themeing lessons. With the use of JQuery plug-ins I was able to animate the different elements on the page giving an illusion of perspective. See DEMO here.

The 3D perspective movement as the user shift his mouse over parts of the environment got me thinking about creating a deep space panoramic experience. I wanted to perceive ocPortal as a sort of spaceship navigating the vastness of the web universe. Keep in mind that this kind of website is not for mobile devices and tablets. Best result will be on a fast computer with a large monitor. Look at it in a dim light surrounding at full screen for an amazing experience.
